More Than Just A Rub Down

When many people think of a massage, they envision a pampering high-end spa, complete with drinks and lush surroundings — and a hefty price tag. Not to suggest that the massages available from some resorts or spas don’t offer any of the benefits associated with massage, but they don’t always offer the massage techniques that best benefit your unique condition; while the Swedish massage, the most well-known and most commonly offered) is excellent for addressing most painful conditions, many people need other types of massage to address their needs. Moreover, when you experience one of theses massages, there’s a chance the person administering your massage hasn’t been trained in the type of massage you may need to address your condition.

It’s different here at Milwaukie Chiropractic. Each of our licensed massage therapists has been trained to not only administer different types of pain-relieving massage techniques but to implement techniques suggested by our experienced chiropractors to get your pain taken care of. Each therapeutic massage gently manipulates the soft issues in our bodies, addressing everything from generalized pain, muscle spasms, and stress. Headaches

Each of us has most likely had at least one episode where a headache took us out of commission for at least a little while. The searing or dull pain at different points in our skulls is sometimes enough to force us into bed for an afternoon or days at a time. For some, these conditions persist and show up with intermittency while, for others, headaches last for days or weeks at a time. Pain relievers such as Tylenol and Advil work to only mask the pain without addressing the underlying cause of these headaches. Taking pills just to manage the pain isn’t going to help alleviate the pain, only delay it. Your headaches could be stemming from a number of issues and ailments that pain pills just won’t (and can’t) fix. That’s why it’s always important to discuss your pain and condition with one of our certified massage therapists and chiropractors.

Stress

Feeling overwhelmed. Going about your day with intense anxiety. Having a general feeling of unease that’s found its way into your back, neck, and head. These are all common signs that stress is negatively impacting your life — and your body. Research conducted by the American Psychological Association has shown that massage therapy is an excellent vehicle for addressing and relieving stress; even a 15-minute massage is enough to begin working through knotted muscles that are a byproduct of stress. When we’re stressed, many of us hunch our shoulders, slump, or go about our day constantly tensed up, creating muscle tension in our hips, backs, and necks. While stress is a psychological condition, it often manifests itself in physical forms, creating far from ideal conditions in our bodies.

Injuries

Whether you have an active or more sedentary lifestyle, injuries can crop up out of nowhere. If you’re an active adult, you’re doing your body a myriad of favors, keeping it in shape and using it for all of the amazing things it can do. If you’re in the latter camp, you may be more prone to injuries, as exerting more than your average amount of energy on stiff and out-of-shape muscle, tendons, and joints can cause injury. This applies especially to our backs. If our backs are stretched in ways they aren’t used to or we attempt to lift something improperly, strains or pulls can (and do) occur. These injuries can range from mild discomfort to forcing you to take time off of your feet to recover. It’s extremely important to discuss your symptoms with your massage therapist and/chiropractor.
